S. Eliot.\u2019 Zo begint Anna Achmatova een van haar autobiografische notities. Een opmerkelijke opsomming, alleen vergist ze zich wat de dichter T. S. Eliot betreft, die kwam in 1888 ter wereld en niet zoals zij in 1889.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Achmatova wordt beschouwd als Ruslands grootste dichteres: een vrouw die po\u00ebzie schreef in een land en ook over een land met een rijke historie en in een periode van stormachtige ontwikkelingen. Haar leven werd getekend door de Oktoberrevolutie, de Eerste Wereldoorlog, de censuur en terreur onder Stalin, de Tweede Wereldoorlog, de Koude Oorlog \u2013 en dat bepaalde ook haar persoonlijke geschiedenis die op z&#8217;n zachtst gezegd turbulent was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ze deelde haar leven met verschillende mannen, de eerste werd gefusilleerd, de laatste stierf in een strafkamp in Siberi\u00eb. Haar zoon werd decennialang gevangengehouden, zelf werd ze verstoten uit de Schrijversbond. Ze publiceerde aan het begin van haar dichterscarri\u00e8re een aantal succesvolle bundels en zweeg daarna, mede door de censuur. Maar in tegenstelling tot vele anderen verliet ze haar land niet.
