Dit citaat komt uit de herziene herdruk van het laatstgenoemde boek (C.U.P, 2002; p. 74).<\/p>\n<p>Vergeef me het dikke hout waarvan ik hier planken ga zagen, maar dit is nu eenmaal <del>televisie<\/del> internet\u2026 we moeten de vaart er een beetje in houden\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Goed\u2026 wat in &#8216;t citaat hierboven interessant is: die \u2018<em>wider traditional problems of human culture\u2019 <\/em>waarmee filosofen als Cavell zich wilden bezighouden(*1), veroorzaakten, in de jaren tachtig en negentig van de vorige eeuw, ook bij sommige schrijvers \u2013 en bij sommigen van die sommige schrijvers, zoals <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MsziSppMUS4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Foster Wallace<\/a>, gebeurde dat deels in het kielzog van Cavell(*2) en consorten \u2013 een vergelijkbare onvrede over de betekenis van hun ambacht\u2026 over het gebrek aan \u2018inhoud\u2019 en \u2018relevantie\u2019 van hun discipline\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Het hoogpostmoderne schrijven was, therapeutisch gezegd, \u2018nogal met zichzelf bezig\u2019 (als je d\u2019r voor gestudeerd hebt mag je hier ook \u2018zelfreferentieel\u2019 of \u2018autoreflexief\u2019 lezen (\u2018<em>even justifications require justification<\/em>\u2019, nietwaar?))\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Mocht literatuur echt alleen nog maar over literatuur gaan?\u2026 maar wie, behalve de solipsist, is gebaat bij solipsisme?\u2026 De kunst leek om weer echt contact te maken\u2026 contact met lezers van vlees en bloed\u2026 en ook om, op een wat hoger abstractieniveau, de roman weer aansluiting te laten vinden op t<em>he wider traditional problems of human culture<\/em> <em>which may have brought one to<\/em> de literatuur, de po\u00ebzie en de roman <em>in the first place\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Het werd tijd voor het post-postmodernisme\u2026 en het werd tijd dat eventuele post postmodernisme, in \u00e9\u00e9n moeite door, van iedere vorm van etikettering los te schrijven\u2026 de literatuur moest de bibliotheek, de studeerkamer, het laboratorium uit\u2026 weg van &#8216;t\u00a0gesticht met autisten, neuroten, solisten, ego\u00efsten, solipsisten en dubbelgesteriliseerde smetvrezenden(*3) waarin het zich had laten insluiten\u2026 de dwangbuis uit\u2026 het vrije veld in\u2026 de steden door\u2026 achterbuurten en\u00a0penthouses in\u2026 de wereld over\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Zou de literatuur net zo vrij en relevant kunnen worden als sommige takken van de wijsbegeerte en de ethiek?\u2026 werd het misschien zelfs tijd voor\u2026 de Filosofische Roman?<\/p>\n<p>Klifhanger!<\/p>\n<p><em>Wordt vervolgd\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018<\/em>Wanneer?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Morgen.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Beloofd?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hand op m\u2019n hart.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018<\/em>Je hart zit aan de andere kant.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Zo? Of bedoel je aan de achterkant? Sorry, flauw. Morgen. Hand op m\u2019n hart.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018<\/em>Ok\u00e9, ik geloof je. Tot morgen, <em>Tirade<\/em>!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Tot morgen, Lezeres. Wat ruik je trouwens heerlijk.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018O, vleier!\u2019 (bloos, bloos)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Zelfde tijd?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Zelfde plek?\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meta dialoog<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Interessante citaten, maar waar slaat dat dialoogje\u00a0op?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Volgens mij is dat bedoeld om de redenering erboven te illustreren.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Op een bepaalde manier.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Op een <em>onbepaalde manier<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018&#8230;\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Uiteindelijk is het toch weer gewoon een soort postmoderne <em>Spielerei<\/em> waar ie mee komt. In mijn ogen althans.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ok\u00e9, maar hoe zou je je aan dat spel kunnen ontworstelen als je niet eerst moeite deed\u00a0het te doorgronden\u2026 en je van dat doorgronden rekenschap te geven?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ook wel weer waar\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018En &#8216;t is ook best leuk om te lezen, eigenlijk.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Vind ik ook.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>* Noten<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*Noot 1:<em> \u2018The philosophy of ordinary language is not about language, anyway not in any sense in which it is not also about the world. Ordinary language philosophy is about whatever language is about.&#8217; (<\/em>Ibid. p.95).<\/p>\n<p>*Noot 2: \u00a0Stanley Cavell was zelfs een aanleiding voor de genoemde Wallace om in 1989, aan Harvard,\u00a0aan een wijsgerig promotieonderzoek te beginnen. DFW-biograaf D.T. Max:<em> \u2018Cavell\u2019s lively, learned, but friendly approach to philosophical investigations in books like Must We Mean What We Say? was the closest Wallace knew to his own; indeed Cavell may have been one of his literary models\u2019 <\/em>(D.T. Max, <em>Every Love Story is a Ghost Story, A Life of David Foster Wallace<\/em>,\u00a0 Granta, <em>London<\/em>, (2012; p.132)). In de jaren negentig zocht Wallace naar een stem, een manier van schrijven, die hem zou kunnen helpen om zijn eenzaamheid te overwinnen en zijn bewustzijn uit te breken. Zoals Max terecht constateert hielp het werk van Cavell Wallace om contact te maken met zijn lezers: zijn (DFW\u2019s) proza<em> \u2018owed something to Cavell\u2019s plainspokenness\u2019\u00a0 <\/em>(Ibid. p.142).<\/p>\n<p>*Noot 3: Een potje beledigen is altijd meegenomen, maar hier is het <em>collateral<\/em>. Stel de afhaalmaaltijd (boodschap) niet gelijk aan het doorgeefluik (boodschapper). In deze passage is sprake van interferentie\u2026 de auteur probeert de denktrant van zijn onderwerp (post-postmodern schrijven) weer te geven\/uit te drukken, en hoewel hij die <em>content<\/em> blijkbaar interessant genoeg acht om hier te presenteren, zegt dat nog niet dat hij het gedachtegoed daarmee ook <del>zelf<\/del> onderschrijft;
